The annual WISE Dialogue is well known for featuring distinguished speakers. This year it will be held in Gothenburg, Sweden on 14–15 March. Among the esteemed speakers at this year’s event is Dr. Andrea Taroni, Director of Submissions and Author Services at Springer Nature.
Dr. Andrea Taroni brings a wealth of experience to his new role at Springer Nature, having previously served as Chief Editor of Nature Physics. His academic journey includes a PhD in statistical physics from University College London, followed by placements at the École Normale Supérieure de Lyon in France and postdoctoral research at Uppsala University in Sweden.
The WISE Dialogue 2024 will be held at Clarion Hotel Post in Gothenburg, Sweden. Scheduled for March 15th, Andrea’s presentation promises to be a highlight of the conference.
– I enjoy working with people and I love the creative discovery process. That is probably what got me hooked during my years as a researcher. In my new role, I work to build a more efficient and dynamic research platform where authors, editors, reviewers, and researchers meet, says Andrea.
Taking place in the morning session, his talk will focus on the publishing processes of Nature, and the rationalities and logic behind it. Emphasizing that his presentation is not a mere ‘how-to’ guide for publishing in Nature, Andrea aims to demystify the editorial process of the journal and takes the opportunity to address PhD students and postdocs in the WISE program.
– Of course, gifted story tellers have an edge because how one communicates and how one frames research is very important. However, Nature is also about timing and above all, a celebration of discoveries, explains Andrea.
Furthermore, Andrea will discuss the significance of Materials Science within the broader context of Nature, citing the great success of the journal Nature Materials within the Nature group.
– At Springer Nature, we appreciate cross-disciplinary efforts very much, particularly in addressing sustainability challenges, remarks Andrea.

-While XPS is straightforward to use for metals, it poses profound challenges for insulators, which can lead to inaccurate spectra interpretation. The exponential growth in XPS publications has also increased the risk of dissemination of potentially erroneous results. This is a serious concern because scientific progress depends on reliable and reproducible data, say Profs. Greczynski and Hultman from Linköping University.
