He will join Lund University as an Assistant Professor in Physics with a focus on the development and characterization of materials for a sustainable society.
Matias received his PhD in 2017 from ETH Zürich, Switzerland, where he developed multimodal X-ray imaging methods for characterizing the nanostructure of materials.
He continued his research as a postdoctoral fellow (2017-2020) at the Paul Scherrer Institute in Villigen, Switzerland, where he closely collaborated with industrial partners to commercialise aspects of his PhD work. Since 2021 he has been working at the California Institute of Technology (CalTech), USA, as a Swiss National Science Foundation Fellow to develop scalable additive manufacturing and characterization methods for 3D nanoarchitectured metamaterials.
-I am very excited to be part of the WISE program. I think it is an ideal platform for fostering collaboration between talented scientists with diverse backgrounds, and stimulating material science research with a direct impact on our future society, says Matias Kagias.
-The WISE faculty recruitment program is highly competitive and allowed us to attract outstanding talents from all over the world such as Matias. He will have a big impact on materials science in Lund that will thrive in the Science Village area next to MAX IV and ESS, says Anders Mikkelsen, Professor and Director of NanoLund.
