Today, she is a postdoctoral researcher in Associate Professor Renee Kroon’s group in Norrköping, where she focuses on the characterization of conjugated polymers. She was part of the WISE programme from August 2023 to August 2025.
Joining WISE marked the beginning of an exciting new chapter. The opportunity arose through her supervisor’s successful WISE grant application and the chance to contribute to an inspiring research project.
Broadening Perspectives
For Cecilia, one of the greatest strengths of WISE was its focus on sustainability and the opportunity to discuss major global challenges such as the circular economy and alternative energy.
“The discussions on sustainability, the circular economy and alternative energy were among the most valuable aspects of the programme.”
The programme also strengthened her understanding of how academic research can create impact beyond the university by fostering collaboration with industry and other stakeholders.
Learning Through Collaboration
One of Cecilia’s favourite memories is the study trip to northern Sweden, where participants visited innovative companies such as Talga and Strega while also building connections with fellow WISE researchers.
She describes the WISE community as one of motivated scientists and dedicated coordinators. Throughout her project, the support of her supervisor and colleagues helped her overcome research challenges and continue developing her work.
“WISE helped me learn how to build collaborations and expand my network.”
Continuing the Journey
After completing the programme, Cecilia has remained in the same research group, continuing to expand the project she started through WISE. She believes the programme played an important role in helping her grow professionally and continue her academic career.
Looking ahead, her goal is simple: to continue doing research she is passionate about, whether in academia or industry, while continuing to develop as both a scientist and a person.
“My future goal is to continue doing what I am passionate about, regardless of whether it is in academia or industry.”
For future participants, Cecilia encourages PhD students and postdoctoral researchers to make the most of the programme by exploring its courses, joining study trips and actively building connections across the WISE community.
“This experience extends far beyond academic learning. It challenges you to think differently, collaborate across disciplines and grow both professionally and personally, concludes Cecilia.”
