Out of the 49 applications submitted to the WISE-ip1 call, 28 projects were finally approved and will be funded by WISE and the Knut and Alice Wallenberg Foundation (KAW).
The call for WISE industrial PhD and postdoc projects was launched on April 1. Researchers from academia and industry jointly applied for projects targeting material science for sustainability.
The granted projects are evenly distributed between industrial PhD student and industrial postdoc projects (a new concept in Sweden). There is also an even distribution between startups, small and medium enterprises, and large companies. The projects cover all the thematic areas of WISE and we are very happy to support this amazing array of projects unifying the forces between industry and academia to derive the science for future materials for sustainability.
-Especially, we are happy to find such great interest for industrial postdoc studies, which is a new component in the Swedish research funding landscape, say Magnus Berggren, director of WISE and Olle Eriksson, co-director of WISE.
WISE partner universities that have been granted funds for industrial PhD and postdoc projects together with excellent industry partners are, KTH Royal Institute of Technology, Chalmers University of Technology, Uppsala University, Linköping University, Lund University, Luleå University of Technology and Umeå University. Some of the enterprises that will participate in the projects are Scania, Uddeholm, Tetra Pak and Höganäs.
