-Very exciting to see so many WISE-related research projects recognized for their potential to impact Swedish industry and society, says Magnus Svensson, director of Industry Cooperation and the WISE Research Arenas (WIRA).
This year’s list highlights 103 research projects, including 18 projects from Chalmers University of Technology, 31 projects from KTH Royal Institute of Technology, 5 projects from Linköping University, 8 projects from Luleå University of Technology, 3 projects from Stockholm University, 9 projects from Lund University, and 4 projects from Uppsala University.
Each year, IVA’s 100 List focuses on pressing themes such as digitization, sustainability, crisis preparedness, and technology at the service of humanity. The 2024 edition focuses on innovation through interdisciplinarity, with topics spanning society and welfare, infrastructure, deep tech, smart industry, circular economy, resource and energy efficiency, green and blue industries, and new business models.
WISE is proud to share that seven WISE researchers have been recognized on this year’s list for their outstanding contributions to sustainability and their potential to create meaningful societal impact.
–Very exciting to see so many WISE-related research projects recognized for their potential to impact Swedish industry and society. Over the past year, WISE has initiated the first WIRAs, which we hope will increase academic-industrial interaction, and launched the proof-of-concept call. These two initiatives are expected to provide more research projects with opportunities for commercial success and, most importantly, reduce the time needed for their adoption in Swedish industry and society, says Magnus Svensson, director of Industry Cooperation and WISE Research Arenas (WIRA).
-We are very excited and deeply honored that Nobula has been featured in the 100 IVA 2024 list! This recognition is a testament to the hard work, passion, and dedication our team has poured into making sustainable glass 3D printing possible. Being named alongside so many fantastic innovators inspire us to keep pushing boundaries within the additive manufacturing community, says Natalia Fijol, WISE postdoctoral researcher at KTH and Nobula. Natalia along with her co-workers and her supervisor Michael Fokine, who works at Nobula and is a WISE researcher, are listed in IVA’s 100 List.
The 100 List is a cornerstone of IVA’s Research2Business (R2B) initiative, a long-term effort to foster collaboration between researchers, businesses, and society. By bridging these sectors, IVA aims to strengthen Sweden’s international competitiveness and promote sustainable innovation.
–We are excited that our research is recognized on IVA’s 100 List. We work in a truly interdisciplinary setting at Chalmers, in collaboration with the team at KTH, to realize these multifunctional composites we call structural batteries, says Leif Asp, Professor in Material and Computational Mechanics at Chalmers University of Technology and WISE researcher.

—Imagine a world where vehicles, buildings, and even everyday devices become self-powering, seamlessly merging structure and storage. This is the vision of structural power composites. Structural power composites open the door to a future where every part of a product contributes not only to its form and strength, but also to its function as an energy source, says WISE Guest Professor Madhavi Srinivasan from Nanyang Technological University.
