WISE Industrial Project Call 2027: Call Text Available

The call text for the third WISE Industrial Project Call (WISE-ip3) is now available, marking the start of a new round of funding aimed at strengthening collaboration between academia and industry. The application portal is set to open in April 2027.

WISE will fund up to 11 industrial doctoral student positions and up to 8 industrial postdoctoral researcher positions. The call covers both basic and need-driven research, and proposals are welcomed across all areas of WISE, provided they can be clearly identified within the WISE program matrix. Each proposal must focus on either one PhD student or one postdoctoral researcher.

Projects are expected to combine excellent materials science and impactful contribution to a sustainable future. Applicants are also required to apply a methodology that addresses sustainability aspects in their proposals, for example, by using the WISE ASSIST tool.

Eligibility Criteria

The call is open to joint applications between academic and industrial partners, with each proposal required to include:

  • A main academic Principal Investigator (PI)
  • A main industry PI

The academic PI must be qualified to act as a main supervisor and be employed at least 50% at one of WISE’s partner universities:

  • Chalmers University of Technology (CTH)
  • KTH Royal Institute of Technology (KTH)
  • Linköping University (LiU)
  • Lund University (LU)
  • Uppsala University (UU)
  • Stockholm University (SU)
  • Luleå University of Technology (LTU)

Alternatively, the academic PI may be a pre-selected researcher (≥50% employment) affiliated with a group of excellence at:

  • University of Gothenburg (GU)
  • Karlstad University (KAU)
  • Umeå University (UmU)
  • Örebro University (ORU)

The industry PI must be employed by a Swedish company or a company with substantial operations in Sweden.

Applicants with ongoing WISE-funded projects must demonstrate significant novelty compared to previous work.

Funding and Financial Conditions

All participating parties are expected to co-finance the project as needed for implementation, with industry contributions included in financial reporting. Funding is distributed retroactively, with the first payment potentially delayed by up to nine months after the project start date.

Timeline

The application portal is set to open in April 2027 and closes in June 2027. The decision of the accepted projects will be communicated in October 2027, and the projects are expected to start latest in August 2028. Updated information is coming soon.
