Welcome Meeting 2025 is now wrapped up – and what an event it was!
With inspiring talks, great energy, and plenty of valuable connections, the meeting set a fantastic tone for the year ahead.
Participants had the chance to hear inspiring presentations from both industry and academia, while also connecting with fellow researchers. A lively poster session added even more opportunities for networking and in-depth discussions.

We also had the pleasure of speaking with some of you who shared your reflections on the Welcome Meeting 2024.
-It was an incredibly nice occasion to connect with many young professionals sharing the same passion towards research and sustainability. The fact that these researchers are now also my friends has made the event even more special, said Lorenzo Fenocchio, industrial postdoc at KTH and Thermo-calc Software.
-The WISE Welcome Meeting was a great opportunity to get inspiration at this early stage of my research. I found it valuable to be able to discuss my project with both new PhD students as well as with senior researchers. The event’s strong focus on sustainability in materials research underscored the relevance of my work and left me motivated to move my project forward, said Lovisa Åkesson, industrial PhD student at LTU and Ferritico AB.
A big thank you to everyone who took part and helped make it such a success. Together we’ve kicked off 2025 in the best possible way!

An international team of scientists from France, Germany, and Sweden has taken a closer look at how magnetism can change incredibly fast—a phenomenon called ultrafast demagnetization.
For the first time, they were able to observe some of the key steps in this process as it happens in a magnetic material. Their work, published in Nature Communications, could help pave the way for faster and more energy-efficient spintronic devices used for storing and processing information.
