Welcome Meeting 2023 sparked networking and exciting discussions. On 28-30 August more than 200 WISE researchers and distinguished guests gathered at Vildmarkshotellet in Kolmården, outside of Norrköping.
The event was a great opportunity for the new PhDs and Postdocs to meet other researchers and to get an introduction to the goals and status of WISE.
Over the three-day event, the participants got to listen to presentations given by representatives from industry and academia. There was also a poster session that gave ample opportunities for further networking and discussions.
Some of you kindly expressed your thoughts about the best of the Welcome Meeting 2023.
-Super excited to meet so many other new PhD students starting at the same time as me, says Yasmini Portes, PhD student, Stockholm University.
-It was so amazing to hear from so many topics such as batteries, green steels and fungi, all connected to sustainability, says Lorena Sanchez, Northvolt, Uppsala University.
-Some of us are newcomers to Sweden and the WISE Welcome meeting felt like a great opportunity to meet other new PhD students, Clara Garcia, PhD student at Lund University.

An international team of researchers has developed a high-performance, biodegradable membrane made from jute agricultural waste to filter oily water. The material is produced using a simple and scalable process and it can be removed using ultrasound and easily re-casted, restoring its performance again and again. Even after repeated use, the membrane maintains over 99% separation efficiency.
