From Mineral to Functional Magnet: Join Workshop to Connect Sweden’s Rare-Earth and Magnet Value Chain

Researchers and industry representatives will gather at Uppsala University on 6 November 2026 for the one-day workshop, From Mineral to Functional Magnet.

The event aims to strengthen collaboration across Sweden’s rare-earth elements and permanent-magnet value chain, bringing together expertise from academia and industry.

The workshop will take place in Gunnar Johannsonsalen at Blåsenhus, Uppsala University, and will feature invited presentations, panel discussions and interactive group discussions. The programme is designed to encourage knowledge exchange and dialogue across different stages of the value chain, from mineral resources to functional magnets.

The invited speakers represent a range of academic institutions, industry organisations and international bodies. Confirmed speakers include Olle Eriksson, Martin Sahlberg and Sandra Eriksson from Uppsala University; Erik Jonsson from the Geological Survey of Sweden (SGU); Magnus Leijd from Leading Edge Materials; Ronne Hamerslag from Nordic Iron; Kerstin Forsberg from KTH Royal Institute of Technology; and Erika Ingvald from the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE). Additional speaker details are to be announced.

By creating a forum for discussion between researchers and industrial stakeholders, the workshop seeks to foster connections and exchange perspectives on the Swedish rare-earth and permanent-magnet landscape.

The event will be held at Blåsenhus, von Kraemers allé 5, Uppsala.
