A new WISE fellow in nanoporous materials for sustainable solutions

“When I told my former supervisor about the WISE start-up package, he described it as the scientific equivalent of winning the lottery!”

Hanna Boström is one of the newly appointed WISE Fellows and recently started her position at Stockholm University. Her research plan will take her down a path to explore nanoporous materials for sustainable solutions.

Hanna studied Chemistry at the University of St Andrews in the UK and later she completed a PhD in Inorganic Chemistry at the University of Oxford. In 2019, she returned to Sweden to start a postdoctoral position at Uppsala University, which was followed by a Humboldt Postdoctoral Research Fellowship at the Max Planck Institute for Solid State Research.

-Right now, I’m busy setting up my lab and recruiting students. I was unfortunately unable to attend the WISE welcome Welcome Meeting, but I think it will be very helpful to be part of a network like WISE. There are three WISE fellows at SU. We have started to meet regularly to exchange ideas and to get to know each other. I look forward to meeting the WISE researchers at other universities as well in due course, says Hanna.

As part of the WISE Fellow recruitment package, Hanna will receive  4-years of full time support for her faculty salary along with support for two PhD students (four years each) and two postdoctoral researchers (two years each).

When I told my former supervisor about the WISE start-up package, he described it as the scientific equivalent of winning the lottery! It is incredible to be able to have funding for both students and postdocs (both in plural) already at the start of my lectureship. The WISE funding allows me to focus on settling into SU and getting my research running, rather than having to worry too much about applying for external funding right now, comments Hanna.
