I am head of the Sandvik Scientific Council. The Council provides oversight of our company’s R&D activities and assists the Board of Directors and the Group Executive Management by providing expert knowledge in technology matters. The core purposes of the Council are to exert impact on industry, society and academia in relevant regions, in line with the Sandvik strategy.
What is your talk about at WISE Networking Day 2025?
It’s an honour to be invited to the WISE summit, and I will take the opportunity to speak about innovative academia- industry collaborations. I will also speak about materials and product challenges amid the green transition, the era of distributed energy, and the unpredictable geopolitical environment. I will have a particular focus on hard materials and coatings, as well as other Sandvik relevant materials.
What is your take on close collaboration between academia and industry, and materials research being a particularly important field going forward?
It’s very important to establish close collaborations between academia and industry. These of course need to build on trust, which takes time and good will, but creates a lot of opportunities when successful. These collaborations can help us to be at the forefront of research for the academia while at the same time generate competitive advantages for the industry. An environment were industry and academia push each other to reach outstanding results is good for everyone.
