WISE International Science Advisory Board gathers for the first time

Recently the WISE International Science Advisory Board (ISAB), the WISE Board, and representatives from the Knut and Alice Wallenberg Foundation recently gathered for the first time

ISAB will meet once a year to evaluate WISE, the largest research initiative in materials science for sustainability in Sweden.

The International Science Advisory Board (ISAB) of WISE is appointed by the WISE Board and is a body of leading international researchers providing strategic advice and guidance on the scientific development and direction of WISE.

The members of the ISAB are Kristin Persson, Professor at the University of California, Berkeley; Zhenan Bao, Professor at Stanford University; Yang Shao-Horn, Professor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology; Nobel Laureate Konstantin Novoselov, Professor at the University of Manchester; Nobel Laureate Frank Wilczek, Professor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology; and Markus Antonietti, Professor at the Max Planck Institute for Colloids and Interfaces.

-A sustainable future depends critically on the rapid discovery of novel, advanced materials with improved properties, including considerations for circularity and availability. WISE is providing an unprecedented investment into the Swedish materials research ecosystem, incentivizing fundamental research and materials design, incorporating sustainability. I am tremendously excited to help the program achieve its vision, says Kristin Persson, Chair of the ISAB board.

-We are sincerely thankful to the members of ISAB to take time to help evaluate the strategies of the WISE project. We are naturally also honored that two Nobel Laureates can be found in this group of truly excellent scientists, says Professor Olle Eriksson, Co-Director of WISE.
