WISE Guest Professors to Give Public Lectures on Next-Generation Materials
On September 11, 2025, from 15:00 to 16:00, WISE (Wallenberg Initiative Materials Science for Sustainability) will host a special guest professor lecture featuring two leading international researchers in materials science.
We are honored to welcome Professor Dipankar Das Sarma, WISE Guest Professor at Uppsala University, and Professor Mari Lundström, WISE Guest Professor at KTH and Professor at Aalto University, Finland.
Professor Das Sarma will present his lecture, “Halide perovskites and related compounds – a new era of material discovery,” exploring groundbreaking advances in materials with transformative potential.
Professor Lundström will give her lecture, “Energy Transition Materials and Their Circularity,” addressing the critical role of sustainable materials in the global energy transition.
-In my lecture, I will focus on the importance of raw materials for the green transition. Green energy is significantly more mineral-intensive than carbon-based energy—for instance, electrification requires large amounts of copper, while batteries depend on lithium, nickel, graphite, and cobalt. Do we have all it is needed on earth? I want to emphasize the importance of integrating considerations such as susceptibility, recycling, and circular economy from the very beginning of every new technological innovation. Finally, I will outline my own research plans during my visit to Sweden and explain how I intend to support the new fellow at KTH, says Professor Mari Lundström.
