We are happy to introduce Linnea Petersson, one of our speakers at the WISE Dialogue conference, March 14-15.

Linnea is the Manager for Sustainable Material Strategy within Volvo Cars’ Global Sustainability Team

Linnea is responsible for material strategy from the perspective of the company’s three sustainability pillars: Climate Action, Circular Economy and Ethical & Responsible Business. Previously. She worked for 12 years as a Research Scientist at ABB Corporate Research, where she was an expert in material development and sustainable development within R&D.

The title for Linneas talk is” Near-zero emission materials – a necessity for low emissions cars” and it is about the need for drastic CO2 reductions of material for companies to reach their net zero greenhouse gas emission targets.

-Many companies have set bold climate targets and are very dependent on the material sector delivering near zero emission raw materials. This is difficult, especially when it comes to reducing direct CO2 that are generated in the production process of materials. More research is needed in this field, says Linnea.

Could you give a word of encouragement to the new WISE PhD students and postdocs?
-The material area has never been this hot before. You are working in a field that is at the center of the decarbonization debate in society. If we succeed in delivering on the Paris Agreement comes down to the materials we use, and how we produce them. You have selected to work with a super interesting topic in an exciting time. One advise would be to collaborate or have discussion with companies, to understand the issues they are facing and how you can become an important player in solving it.
