WISE Dialogue 2026: Francisco Penayo, R&D Specialist at Hitachi Energy & project leader of WIRA-Water WISE, speaks at WISE Dialogue 2026

We are happy to introduce Francisco Panayo, one of our speakers at the WISE Dialogue conference, March 17-18. Francisco holds a key role as R&D Manager at Hitachi Energy.

Francisco’s talk will introduce the new WISE research and innovation initiative WIRA – Water WISE, bringing together industrial partners Hitachi, IKEA, and Tetra Pak with academic partners Uppsala University, Lund University, and KTH. The presentation will highlight shared challenges in materials and sustainability across industries, with a focus on research in moist and technical materials and its role in enabling more sustainable solutions.

What breakthrough in sustainable materials inspires you the most today?
Circular economy, particularly the growing potential to reuse and recirculate materials in new products. Advances in material design, recycling technologies, and cross-industry collaboration are making it increasingly possible to keep materials in use for longer, reduce waste, and lower the environmental footprint of products without compromising performance.

What do you hope participants will take away from your talk?
I hope participants will gain a clear understanding of WIRA-Water WISE, its purpose, and its relevance, and feel inspired to engage with the initiative. Ideally, they will see the value of cross-sector collaboration and be motivated to join WIRA’s activities and contribute to its ongoing work.
