Cecilia Århammar to speak at the WISE Networking Day

-Sustainability is at the core of Graphmatech’s mission. By incorporating graphene into polymers, we significantly improve how these materials behave. We make them better, says Cecilia Århammar, Reaserch Area Manager at Graphmatech.

The inaugural WISE Networking Day is set to take place on January 28 in Norrköping, and anticipation is running high within the WISE community. One of the event’s featured speakers is Cecilia Århammar, the current Research Area Manager and Business Developer at Graphmatech.

Cecilia’s extensive career began at Sandvik Coromant, where she embarked on an industrial PhD program in collaboration with KTH Royal Institute of Technology. Her research focused on computational modeling at the atomic level, delving into the properties of hard metals used in cutting tools. Following her time at Sandvik Coromant, Cecilia pursued a postdoctoral position at Uppsala University before transitioning back to industry. She joined Disruptive Materials, a company based in Uppsala, where she served as R&D manager until 2022, when she assumed her current role at Graphmatech.

What is your current role in Graphmatech?

As the research area manager at Graphmatech, I work closely on the development of advanced material solutions, focusing on pushing the boundaries of innovation and sustainability.

What will you talk in the WISE Networking Day event?

During my presentation, I will introduce our WISE industrial project, “Towards High-Performance Graphene Composites for Hydrogen Storage.” This project is a collaboration with Professor Martin Sahlberg from Uppsala University, where we will explore graphene composite materials (graphene combined with polymers) for hydrogen storage applications. Graphene is an amazing material consisting on a single layer of carbon atoms, that when combined with another material, a polymer for instance, can improve its performance. The goal is to enhance the performance of these materials for efficient hydrogen storage. Additionally, I will highlight our in-house process for integrating graphene into the polymer matrix, which plays a pivotal role in achieving these advancements.

How does Graphmatech deals with Sustainability Issues?

Sustainability is at the core of Graphmatech’s mission. By incorporating graphene into polymers, we significantly enhance their mechanical and conductive properties. For instance, our polymer solutions for hydrogen infrastructure reduce hydrogen leakage, a common problem due to the small size of the hydrogen molecule, making them both cost-efficient and environmentally friendly. Using our technology, we can also incorporate graphene into copper, achieving homogeneous dispersion within the composite matrix. This advancement reduces reflectivity compared to pure copper, which improves for example, component density in 3D printing processes.
