Brief description of RTP
CircuLab is a Research and Technology Platform (RTP) to develop safe synthesis and processing of circular and sustainable materials.
The key pillars of CircuLab are i) Automated synthesis and processing, ii) Real-time monitoring of emissions, hazardous chemicals and physiochemical changes across synthesis and processing iii) Data-driven decision making to close the loop between data and design.
Sustainability and Circularity is at the core of CircuLab activities. In combination with Machine Learning (ML) approaches, the high-throughput materials lab will accelerate the development of the future generation of sustainable materials, especially biobased materials, recycled materials and catalytic materials, and contribute to societal needs including abatement of climate change.
CircuLab is divided into 4 clusters that include a constellation of about 20 individual equipment.
Cluster Automation
High-throughput platforms for formulation development, materials preparation/recycling and catalytic organic synthesis
Cluster Processing
Solvent free processing, mechanochemistry and recycling.
Cluster Analytics
Monitoring of reaction progress, emissions and contaminants during synthesis, processing and recycling, alongside the assessment of the material properties and ecotoxicity.
Cluster Data
Instrument integration and orchestration, data management, ML, AI and Bayesian optimisation.
