Shared equipment and resources
WISE Additive is a national platform for additive manufacturing (AM), the most resource-efficient manufacturing technology enabling production of complex-shape multi-functional components, not possible to produce using conventional manufacturing. The platform is a joint activity between Uppsala University, Chalmers University of Technology, and Linköping University, each with a distinct focus area. At Uppsala, the focus is on material development for and through AM, as well as powder production, recyclability in AM, and non-destructive structural analysis. Chalmers focuses on the development and industrial implementation of sustainable multi-material AM by enabling high-resolution metal and multi-material metal/ceramic AM, improved powder reuse and recycling. Linköping’s node specializes in printed electronics, integrating additive manufacturing with functional materials for applications spanning electronic, optoelectronic, bioelectronic, and energy technologies.
Coordination
WISE additive is led by a steering group consisting of the scientific directors at the three nodes. The work at the nodes is managed by the technical directors at the respective nodes. The WISE Additive board makes decisions regarding RTP strategy, budget and procedures. An advisory group provides external expert advice on the activities.
Access and guidance for users within the coordinated RTP
New users can find a suitable resource through the common website, which contains information on equipment available, its location and local contact person. At each node, there is a technical director, who is responsible for communication, granting access for projects. There is also a research engineer, who, depending on the nature of the project, either executes the work, and/or gives training and access to new users. The research engineer is also responsible for maintenance of the equipment.
