Research question

This project aims to identify new altermagnetic materials with desireable properties. For this purpose, we will use advanced computational and theoretical methods to describe the many-electron physics at the heart of this magnetic phenomenon.

Sustainability aspects

The magnetic materials needed for many electronical components are rare and their mining strains the environment. Since altermagnets are an entirely new class of magnetic materials, they have the potential to reduce the resource footprint by replacing rare materials by more common ones and by shrinking the components.
