Research question
Manufacturing of high-strength, corrosion-resistant, light-weight Mg alloys currently relies on the inclusion of rare-earth-elements. The combination of additive manufacturing (AM) with new material compositions could allow for the production of RE-free Mg-based metallic glasses, enabling more sustainable material solutions of even better performance. Potential applications include structurally optimized aerospatial components as well as antibacterial, degradable implants.
Sustainability aspect
Efficient material use using additive manufacturing; powder reuse; rare-earth-free materials; sustainable health solutions; global resource efficiency.
