Research question
What is the next breakthrough for cheaper and more environmentally friendly batteries?
The answer is perhaps sodium-ion batteries, without the need for neither lithium nor copper, which are both expensive and have limited availability. Sodium-ion batteries can be further leveraged by understanding the structure of new materials more deeply and this is why we apply advanced analysis methods only found at synchrotron facilities to look at how they behave during the charge cycle of rechargeable batteries.
Sustainability aspects
This project explores sustainable and affordable batteries that do not contain neither lithium nor copper.
