Bibliography:
Stefano Cucurachi is Associate Professor of Industrial Ecology at the Institute of Environmental Sciences (CML), Leiden University. His research focuses on the prospective quantitative assessment of the environmental, health, and sustainability implications of emerging technologies, with particular emphasis on Life Cycle Assessment (LCA), uncertainty and sensitivity analysis, and the integration of environmental assessment with hazard and risk analysis within Safety and Sustainability by Design (SSbD) frameworks. His work supports technology developers and decision-makers in identifying and mitigating sustainability challenges at the earliest stages of research and development.
He is internationally recognized for advancing prospective LCA methodologies and for fostering interdisciplinary collaboration between industrial ecology, materials science, chemistry, and engineering. In 2022, he co-founded the Prospective LCA Network, an international community of practice supporting method development and knowledge exchange in early-stage sustainability assessment. As principal investigator and work package leader in multiple European research projects, he collaborates closely with academic and industrial partners in the chemical, pharmaceutical, materials, and energy sectors. Alongside his research activities, he is actively engaged in doctoral and postdoctoral training and regularly contributes to international conferences, PhD committees, and strategic research initiatives aimed at embedding sustainability considerations into technology and materials innovation.

Explore invited professors under the WISE program
In this page, you will meet the WISE Invited Professors. The WISE invited professor (WIP) program is part of the recruitment and outreach activities of WISE and targets to establish research connections internationally. The purpose can be both to strengthen excellent research environments and to introduce new contacts and research areas into the Swedish research landscape. Through the WIP program, WISE will collaborate with internationally competitive research environments, enabling crucial networking. This page will be continuously updated.
