Research question

The study and selection of novel multi-element materials for applications in next-generation technologies is a fundamental task of materials science. For complex materials there are many variables to be optimized, requiring many experiments to be made and very fast methods to gather and assess data. In this project we are using vision-based methods for analyzing samples of new materials produced on a continuous basis in an autonomous laboratory. AI methods are being develop to interpret data from images of the samples, in order to track the evolution of material characteristics through the complex, high-dimensional space of chemical composition and synthesis parameters.

Sustainability aspects

This project contributes to development of next-generation materials for sustainable energy. Besides the direct benefit of sustainable energy technologies, new materials aim to improve performance, lower use of critical/rare elements and result in more affordable technologies.
