Research question

How can we develop a novel intelligent material design process specialized for lignin-rich composites, that optimizes interfacial adhesion to meet requirements regarding moisture sensitivity, strength and toughness by employing computational multiscale material models combining molecular scale interactions and composite mechanics? By the use of Molecular Dynamics simulations and Finite Element modelling optimization strategies will be evaluated and validated with experiments.

Sustainability aspects

Optimization of interfacial adhesion and final material properties in biobased composites to replace fossil-based resins and energy-intensive glass or carbon fibers.
